- Do I need an unlock or ECU swap? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Tuning Options QUESTION Do I need an unlock or ECU swap? ANSWER No. Thanks to HP Tuners' support for these platforms, we do not currently require ECU swaps or unlock services for any vehicle platforms we support. Simply read and submit your stock file using your HP Tuners device, and we'll take it from there. Please note that if your vehicle contains a newly released or previously unidentified operating system (OSID), HP Tuners may first need to add support for that calibration. In those cases, additional definitions may be required before tuning can begin, which can extend the tuning process by up to two weeks. - Can I use FORscan once tuned? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Modifications QUESTION Can I use FORscan once tuned? ANSWER Yes. FORScan changes and custom tuning operate independently, so changes made in one generally do not affect the other. FORScan modifications made before tuning will remain in place, and flashing a custom tune does not overwrite or undo those changes. Likewise, making FORScan changes after tuning does not require a re-tune. In rare cases, FORScan may report an OSID mismatch when connecting to a tuned vehicle for the first time. If this occurs, please review the troubleshooting tips provided on this page. After completing those steps, FORScan should connect normally whether the vehicle is running a stock calibration or a custom tune. TIPS 1. Flash Back to the Stock Calibration Temporarily This is the simplest and most reliable solution. Reinstall the stock calibration, restart FORScan, and create or save the vehicle profile. In most cases, this allows FORScan to identify the vehicle correctly and continue working even after the custom tune has been reapplied. 2. Check for Software Updates Make sure you are running the latest version of FORScan. Older software versions may not recognize newer operating systems or calibration strategies. 3. Locate the Factory PCM Part Number If prompted, the factory PCM part number can often be found directly on the PCM itself. In some cases, it may also be available through Ford As-Built Data records. 4. Contact Us If the issue persists after completing the above steps, please contact our team for assistance. Please note that these solutions may not apply to all vehicles, software versions, or platforms. - Can I install a Blow-Off Valve (BOV) on my Explorer ST or Lincoln Aviator? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Modifications QUESTION Can I install a Blow-Off Valve (BOV) on my Explorer ST or Lincoln Aviator? ANSWER Yes. A Blow-Off Valve (BOV) can be installed on both 2020-2024 and 2025+ Explorer ST and Aviator 3.0L models, but the exact requirements depend on your model year and, in some cases, your intercooler and charge pipe configuration. For most applications, a BOV requires a cold-side charge pipe with a compatible BOV flange. The flange selected must match the BOV you intend to run (such as HKS, TiAL, or TurboSmart-compatible setups). 2020-2024 Explorer ST / Aviator: • Both factory and aftermarket intercooler configurations are generally compatible with aftermarket cold-side charge pipe upgrades. • Simply select a charge pipe and flange configuration compatible with your desired BOV. 2025+ Explorer ST / Aviator: • BOV compatibility depends on both the charge pipe and intercooler configuration. • Vehicles retaining the OEM intercooler or using the CVF Direct-Fit Intercooler require an adapter when using aftermarket cold-side charge pipes. • Vehicles utilizing a complete 2020-2024 style intercooler and charge pipe setup do NOT require an adapter. Because fitment varies by model year and hardware combination, we recommend confirming your existing intercooler and charge pipe setup before purchasing BOV-related components. TIPS • The flange type on the charge pipe must match the BOV you plan to install. • Common flange options include HKS, TiAL, and TiAL/TurboSmart-compatible configurations. • Some charge pipes are sold with only the flange provision, while others may also offer compatible BOV packages. • If purchasing from us, TiAL BOVs are purchased separately from the charge pipe. • If purchasing from us, HKS and TurboSmart BOV packages are available with some charge pipe configurations. • We do not recommend a specific charge pipe or BOV configuration. For most builds, charge pipes and BOVs are considered personal preference items rather than performance requirements. • If you're unsure which configuration is compatible with your vehicle, contact ZFG Racing with your vehicle make, model, model year and current intercooler setup before ordering. - Can I use my existing tuning device for tuning? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Devices & Software QUESTION Can I use my existing tuning device for tuning? ANSWER In many cases, yes. Existing HP Tuners devices may be compatible with your vehicle and tuning goals. However, compatibility depends on the specific device model, device generation, vehicle platform, desired tuning method, and tuner preferences. Not all HP Tuners devices support all vehicles or tuning methods. For example, some vehicles may support the TDN App, while others may require VCM Suite. Licensing requirements and existing device usage may also affect compatibility. If you already own a tuning device, please contact us with the device model and vehicle information before purchase. - FAQ Frequently Asked Questions (List) | ZFG RACING LLC
FAQ Frequently Asked Questions Filter by Category Select Category QUESTION: How do Complimentary Tune Updates Work? ANSWER: A Complimentary Tune Update may be available when purchasing qualifying performance parts from ZFG Racing. These updates are intended to account for newly installed hardware and ensure your existing ZFG calibration remains compatible with the vehicle's current configuration. To request a Complimentary Tune Update: 1. Purchase the qualifying part(s) from ZFG Racing. 2. Submit a new Tune Request through Tuning Central. → We recommend submitting 2+ weeks in advance for major upgrades (fuel system, turbos, etc.) 3. Use the parts order number as the "new order number" for the Tune Request. 4. Upload any requested data logs so our calibration team can review the new configuration. Depending on the modification, additional revisions and data log reviews may be required before the updated tune is marked complete. Please note that not all modifications require tuning changes, and some modifications may require additional tuning services beyond a Complimentary Tune Update. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I Change Fuel Types Later? ANSWER: Generally, no. Once a Tune Request has been submitted, the fuel type of your tune cannot be changed. However, you can purchase an Additional Tune to cover a different fuel type. Full Answer → QUESTION: Why do order numbers matter for Tune Requests and tune updates? ANSWER: Every tune purchased from ZFG Racing is associated with a unique order number. Using the correct order number helps us identify the specific tune being referenced, previous revision history, and related vehicle information. If multiple tunes are purchased under the same order number, additional clarification may be needed before processing can begin. For the smoothest experience, we recommend purchasing tuning packages, additional tunes, tune updates, and tune upgrades as separate orders whenever practical. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I add a tune feature while my tune is already in progress (Trans Brake, Launch Control, etc.)? ANSWER: In most cases, no. Tune add-ons such as Trans Brake, Launch Control, and similar features are processed as separate purchases and require their own Tune Request, calibration review, and revision process. ⏸️ If your original tune is still in progress, please wait until you receive confirmation from Calibrations that the current tune has been completed. Once complete, you may purchase the desired add-on and submit a new Tune Request for that order. 📋 This helps ensure that: • Each tune feature is tied to the correct order number • Calibration requests are processed accurately • Revision history remains organized • Additional tuning requirements are properly reviewed and validated ☝️Example Current Tune Order • 93 Performance Tune • Tune currently in revision process → Desired Add-On: Trans Brake ✅ Correct Process: 1. Complete the current tuning process. 2. Purchase the Trans Brake add-on. 3. Submit a new Tune Request using the Trans Brake order number. 4. Complete any required data logging and revisions. Full Answer → QUESTION: Will the app instruct me on what type of pulls to do? ANSWER: No, the app will not advise of which logs to record. All next steps, including data logging instructions and details on which pulls to record, are provided via email in reply to Tune Requests. Once logs are completed, you'll ensure they're synced to the TDN and submit another Tune Request for review. Full Answer → QUESTION: Does ZFG tune police interceptor vehicles? ANSWER: Yes. We tune all Police Interceptor vehicles, including Explorer 2.3L, 3.0L, 3.0L Hybrid, Mustang 2.3L, and F-150 2.7L and 3.5L variants. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can Tow Mode be tuned since it's not selectable on my Lincoln? ANSWER: Yes. Even though Tow Mode is not a selectable drive mode, it can still be seen and adjusted through tuning. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do you tune hybrids? ANSWER: Yes. We tune both the F150 PowerBoost and 3.0L hybrid Explorer/Aviator platforms including the Aviator GT, Police Interceptor Hybrid, and EU spec Explorer Hybrid. Full Answer → QUESTION: Which Fuel Type Should I Choose? ANSWER: The ideal fuel type depends on your driving goals, local fuel availability, budget, and willingness to manage fuel quality. For customers seeking maximum flexibility, Auto-Octane allows operation across a wider range of fuel grades. Customers seeking maximum performance from pump gas often prefer a dedicated 91+ or 93-octane calibration. Ethanol-based calibrations such as E50 and E85 typically provide the highest performance potential but require ethanol availability and proper fuel management. Full Answer → QUESTION: What Is DMS™? ANSWER: DMS™ (Drive Mode Specific) is ZFG Racing's proprietary multi-calibration tuning system. Rather than applying a single calibration to all drive modes, DMS™ assigns different power profiles and tuning characteristics to the vehicle's factory drive modes. Depending on the platform and configuration, drive modes can be calibrated with different power levels, throttle response, transmission behavior, shift schedules, torque management strategies, and other performance characteristics. This allows customers to switch between different driving experiences using the factory drive mode selector without requiring additional tune flashing. • Eco: Daily Driver Profile • Normal: Performance Profile • Sport: Race profile Tow: Dedicated towing calibration • Trail / Baja: Stock Profile Available drive mode assignments and features vary by platform and application. Full Answer → QUESTION: What Is Included With My Tune Purchase? ANSWER: Every ZFG Tune is built specifically for your vehicle, modifications, fuel type, and tuning goals. Your purchase includes: • Custom ECM calibration • Custom TCM calibration (where supported) • Data log review • Revision support required to complete the tune • Tune delivery through HP Tuners and TDN Additional refinements can also be requested after completion if needed. Full Answer → QUESTION: What Is TDN? ANSWER: TDN (Tune Delivery Network) is the cloud-based service used by HP Tuners and ZFG Racing to exchange tune files and data logs remotely. Files are managed through the TDN App. After creating your account and linking ZFG Racing as your tuner, tune files, stock reads, and data logs can all be exchanged through the platform. TDN is a central part of the remote tuning process. Full Answer → QUESTION: How Do I Mix E50? ANSWER: Because ethanol content varies by station, season, and region, E50 should never be mixed using assumptions alone. The recommended approach is to test the ethanol content of your E85 and pump gas, then use the ZFG Ethanol Calculator or E50 Cheat Sheet to determine the correct blend ratio. Proper blending improves consistency, drivability, and performance. Full Answer → QUESTION: What fuel and tune types do you support? ANSWER: We offer multiple fuel types, tuning goals, and tuning options. All tunes are custom and will be written for the fuel type, tuning goal, vehicle, and vehicle configuration specified at purchase: Fuel Type Fuel availability varies by region, so we generally recommend selecting a tune based on the highest-quality fuel consistently available in your area. • Auto-Octane (87-93 • Octane + up to E30) • 91+ Octane (91-93 Octane + up to E30) • 93 Octane (93 Octane + up to E30) • E50 (40-60% ethanol content) • E85 (70-90% ethanol content) Tuning Goal This is the starting point for your calibration and tells us what you're looking for in terms of responsiveness, gains, and end-goals: • Daily Driver (stock-like yet refined) • Performance (Goldilocks - not too much or too little) • Race (maximum power and full optimization) • Tow (towing and high work-demand applications) Depending on the vehicle platform, you may also have the option of either a Standard Tune or DMS™ (Drive Mode Specific) Calibration, which allows different tuning characteristics to be assigned to the factory drive modes. Full Answer → QUESTION: What Is Auto-Octane? ANSWER: Auto-Octane is a fuel type we offer for tunes. Auto-Octane tunes are designed to accommodate a broader range of pump-gas fuel octanes than a dedicated premium-fuel tune, such as 91+ Octane or 93 Octane. While Auto-Octane provides excellent flexibility, dedicated premium-fuel calibrations generally offer greater performance potential. Auto-Octane is often a good choice for customers who travel frequently or live in areas where premium fuel availability varies. This fuel type is also well-suited for use as a tow and travel tune. Full Answer → QUESTION: Which GPF-compatible exhaust components are available for my 2025+ Explorer ST? ANSWER: Certain 2025+ Explorer ST vehicles may be equipped with a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF). To determine whether your vehicle has a GPF, please review the emissions sticker located under the hood. If "GPF" is listed on the emissions label, certain exhaust components or systems may not be compatible with your vehicle. At this time, ZFG Racing is not aware of any GPF-compatible aftermarket downpipes available for the 2025+ Explorer ST. If compatible options become available in the future, we will update our catalog accordingly. However, some cat-back exhaust options are now becoming available for GPF-equipped vehicles. Most notably, Thermal R&D has recently released GPF-compatible exhaust systems for applicable Explorer ST models. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I install a Blow-Off Valve (BOV) on my Explorer ST or Lincoln Aviator? ANSWER: Yes. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I transfer my tune, tuning device, or tuned vehicle to another owner? ANSWER: 1. Can I move my tune to a different vehicle? No. Custom tuning is built for the specific vehicle, VIN, operating system, modifications, fuel type, and configuration provided at purchase. A tune purchased for Vehicle A cannot simply be transferred to Vehicle B, even if the owner remains the same. ___________________________________ 2. Can I sell a vehicle that already has a ZFG tune? Maybe. If the original purchaser is selling a vehicle that already has an active ZFG tune installed, available options depend on the specific vehicle, tuning device, purchase history, and current configuration. These situations are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us before completing the sale so we can discuss any available options. ___________________________________ 3. Can I sell or transfer my HP Tuners device? Generally, yes. HP Tuners devices are separate from the custom tune itself. Device ownership, compatibility, and licensing are managed through HP Tuners. The tuning device may play a role in available tuning-transfer options, but transferring or selling a device does not automatically transfer any custom tuning services, support, or calibration ownership. If you're planning to sell or transfer a device, please contact us first so we can review your specific situation. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I return my order or get a refund? ANSWER: Custom tuning files, calibration services, software credits, and other digital products are non-refundable and non-transferable. Most new, unopened merchandise may be eligible for return within 30 days of delivery provided an RMA has been issued by ZFG Racing. Special-order items, electronics, and opened products are generally not eligible for return. Restocking fees of up to 25% may apply and are determined during the RMA review process. Order cancellations may be subject to a cancellation fee. For complete details, please review our Return & Refund Policy or contact Sales before requesting a return. Full Answer → QUESTION: What is ZFG Racing's return, refund, and cancellation policy? Full Answer → QUESTION: Do you ship to Canada? ANSWER: Yes, ZFG Racing ships most physical products to Canada based on product availability. Please submit an Invoice Request for any international orders including those to Canada: https://www.tunedbyzfgracing.com/request-a-quote Full Answer → QUESTION: Which tuning option should I purchase? ANSWER: The correct option depends on your situation: Tune Only: • You already own a compatible device. • You only need calibration files. Tuning Package: • You need both a tuning device and custom calibrations. • Recommended for most first-time customers. We will be happy to help determine compatibility and any licensing requirements. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I use my tuning device on more than one vehicle? ANSWER: In many cases, an HP Tuners device can be used with multiple vehicles. Generally, these devices can be used to tune multiple vehicles either simultaneously or over the lifetime of the device. However, compatibility depends on the specific device, device generation, vehicle platform, tuner preferences, and licensing requirements. Most supported vehicles require HP Tuners credits (licenses) before tuning can be performed. The number of credits required varies by vehicle and application. Additional credits may need to be purchased when tuning another vehicle. Compatibility may also vary based on the model and generation of tuning device being used. Not all devices support all vehicles or vehicle generations, and not all devices support the same tuning methods (e.g., TDN App and/or VCM Suite). If you are considering using a tuning device on a different vehicle, or using an existing device on your vehicle, please contact us with the device model and vehicle information. We will be happy to help determine compatibility and any licensing requirements before purchase. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I transfer my tune or tuning device to another vehicle? ANSWER: Tuning purchases are generally non-transferable and are intended for the original vehicle for which they were ordered. However, we understand that circumstances can change, and requests involving tune or device transfers may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific vehicle, tuning device, purchase history, and requested changes. In most situations, the original vehicle and tuning device must no longer be associated with the existing tune before any transfer options can be evaluated. If you are considering transferring a tune or tuning device to another vehicle, please contact us with the details of both vehicles and the tuning device being used so we can review the available options. Full Answer → QUESTION: I'm having issues with the TDN App. What should I do? ANSWER: If you experience any issues with the TDN App, please capture screenshots or a screen recording showing exactly what is occurring and email them to Sales@TunedByZFGRacing.com. Including screenshots, screen recordings, error messages, and a brief description of what you were attempting to do will help our team review the issue and provide assistance as quickly as possible. Our team will be glad to help troubleshoot and advise of the next steps. Full Answer → QUESTION: My vehicle will not read the stock file. What should I do? ANSWER: If your vehicle will not successfully read the stock file, please screenshot the specific error message(s) shown and gather an InfoLog. Once completed, please email us directly and attach the screenshots, InfoLog, and any other relevant details. Our team will review the information provided and advise of the next steps after the review is completed. Providing the exact error message and InfoLog helps us identify the cause of the issue as quickly as possible. Full Answer → QUESTION: What are the benefits of using HP Tuners? ANSWER: HP Tuners offers several advantages compared to many handheld tuning devices. In most cases, diagnostic software, dealer-level diagnostic tools, OBD-based monitoring devices, scan tools, gauges, and other vehicle accessories can continue to be used normally while a tune is installed. As a best practice, we recommend restoring the stock calibration before performing certain dealer-level programming or software updates, such as Ford FDRS or IDS programming. Additionally, the HP Tuners Restore file generated from your original stock read is a true and complete copy of your factory calibration and controller data. Because HP Tuners devices do not permanently marry themselves to the vehicle's ECU, customers generally do not need to worry about long-term device-to-vehicle associations if the tune is removed in the future, such as for resale or returning the vehicle to stock. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do I need to disconnect a previous tune or tuning device before installing a tune from ZFG? ANSWER: Yes. Before tuning with ZFG Racing, any previously used tune or tuning device must be completely disconnected from the vehicle. For most tuning platforms, this means more than simply restoring the stock calibration. The device must be fully removed or "unmarried" from the vehicle according to the manufacturer's instructions so that neither the tuning device nor the vehicle remains linked to the previous tune. If you are unsure whether a previous tuning device has been fully removed, please let us know which device was used and we will be glad to help determine the next steps. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do you support aftermarket downpipes? ANSWER: Yes. We support aftermarket catted downpipes. We do not support catless downpipes or catless exhaust configurations under any circumstances. While downpipes do not always require specific tuning changes, we generally recommend installing them before completing data logs whenever possible. This allows us to review performance with the final hardware configuration installed. Full Answer → QUESTION: Are there any recommended modifications? ANSWER: No modifications are required to enjoy the benefits of custom tuning. However, for customers looking to maximize performance, we generally recommend the following upgrade path: Intercooler Intake Downpipes Transmission Upgrades Fuel System Upgrades Turbocharger Upgrades The ideal modification path will vary based on your vehicle, goals, budget, and intended use. Some customers are primarily interested in reliability and consistency, while others are pursuing maximum performance. Full Answer → QUESTION: What modifications require a tune update? ANSWER: It depends on the modification. Some upgrades can be installed without any tuning changes, while others should be installed before tuning begins so they can be accounted for during the data logging and revision process. As a general guideline: ✅ Typically no tune changes required: Intercoolers Charge pipes Spark plugs Most blow-off valves ⚠️ Usually best installed before tuning: Cold air intakes Ram air intakes Turbo inlet tubes Aftermarket downpipes ❗ Contact us before installing: Upgraded turbochargers Fuel system modifications Other major performance upgrades You're welcome to begin the tuning process before parts are installed. In many cases, we can process your tune request, read your stock file, and prepare your baseline tune in advance. Depending on the modification, however, we may recommend waiting to flash the tune or complete data logs until after installation. Full Answer → QUESTION: Will tuning affect my warranty? ANSWER: Warranty decisions are ultimately made by the vehicle manufacturer and dealership, not ZFG Racing. Because custom tuning modifies the vehicle's calibration, it may affect warranty coverage for certain components or repairs. The impact varies depending on the manufacturer, dealership, vehicle, and specific repair being requested. Customers should consider potential warranty implications before modifying their vehicles. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I return my vehicle to stock? ANSWER: Yes. Using your HP Tuners device, you can flash your vehicle back to its original stock calibration at any time. Many customers choose to return the vehicle to stock temporarily for troubleshooting, dealership visits, or before selling the vehicle. Returning the vehicle to stock does not delete your custom tune files, and you may reapply your tune later as needed. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can the dealership overwrite my tune? ANSWER: Yes. If the dealership performs a PCM software update, your custom tune may be overwritten and replaced with the updated factory calibration. Not every dealership visit results in a PCM update, but it is possible anytime software updates, recalls, or drivability concerns are addressed. If your vehicle receives a PCM update, simply contact our team. Depending on the circumstances, an updated stock file and tune revision may be required. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I use FORscan once tuned? ANSWER: Yes. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do you have a Quick Start Guide? ANSWER: Yes. Our latest Quick Start Guide can be found in our tuning hub: Tuning Central. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do I need an unlock or ECU swap? ANSWER: No. Full Answer → QUESTION: How does tuning impact drive modes? ANSWER: Drive mode behavior depends on the vehicle platform and the tuning option selected. Our Standard Tunes provide a single calibration optimized for your selected fuel and vehicle configuration across all drive modes. The Terrain Management System will still function as intended, according to it's stock "personality." Even after tuning, Normal and Eco Modes will remain the most relaxed, while Sport and Baja remain the most responsive. For vehicles equipped with DMS™ (Drive Mode Specific) Tuning, individual drive modes can be calibrated differently. This allows features such as separate power levels, throttle response, transmission behavior, boost targets, and other tuning characteristics to be assigned to different drive modes. Full Answer → QUESTION: How does ZFG tuning work? ANSWER: ZFG Tuning is a remote custom tuning service that uses HP Tuners hardware and software. The ZFG tuning process involves several steps: first, you submit a tune request after pulling your vehicle's stock file using the TDN App. Then, ZFG reviews your request and sends back a baseline tune, which you can further refine through data logging and additional requests until you achieve your desired performance. Full Answer → QUESTION: My RTD4 won't sync. What should I do? ANSWER: If your RTD4 will not sync, first verify that your internet connection is stable and that you are signed into the correct HP Tuners account within the TDN application. Restart the device and application, then attempt the sync again. If the problem persists, contact our our team and include screenshots of any error messages along with your order number so we can assist with troubleshooting. Full Answer → QUESTION: What fuel should I use in Alaska? ANSWER: Fuel quality and available octane ratings can vary significantly throughout Alaska. We generally recommend using the highest-quality fuel consistently available in your area and selecting a tune designed for that fuel. When discussing tuning options, please let us know the fuel grades available locally so we can provide the most appropriate recommendation for your specific situation. Full Answer → QUESTION: Do I need an intercooler before tuning? ANSWER: Not necessarily. Most vehicles can be tuned safely using the factory intercooler, and many customers choose to tune before performing additional modifications. However, upgraded intercoolers can help reduce intake air temperatures, improve consistency during repeated acceleration, and support more aggressive driving conditions. For customers planning multiple modifications, tuning is often the recommended first step. Full Answer → QUESTION: What's the difference between DMS™ and Standard Tuning? ANSWER: Standard Tuning applies a single calibration across all drive modes, optimized for your selected fuel type, tuning goal, and vehicle configuration. The factory drive mode functionality itself remains intact: Normal and Eco Modes will remain the most relaxed, while Sport and Baja remain the most responsive. Where applicable, DMS™ (Drive Mode Specific) Tuning allows multiple calibrations to be integrated into the factory drive modes, enabling different power levels, transmission behavior, and vehicle characteristics without requiring additional flashing between calibrations. DMS™ provides greater flexibility while maintaining factory-style operation, though it is only supported for 2020-2024 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator 3.0L Platforms at this time. Full Answer → QUESTION: What spark plugs should I run? ANSWER: For most tuned Ford and Lincoln EcoBoost vehicles, we recommend NGK LTR7BHX spark plugs (95605) gapped to 0.028". For heavily modified applications, including many big turbo setups, a 0.026" gap may be more appropriate. Always verify spark plug gap before installation, and we recommend using a feeler gauge for the most accurate measurement. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I run 91 on a 93 tune? ANSWER: We do not recommend running a lower-octane fuel than your tune is written for. However, occasional use of 91 octane on a 93-octane tune is generally acceptable. Performance and consistency may be reduced compared to using the intended fuel grade. If 91 octane is the highest-quality fuel regularly available in your area, a dedicated 91-octane is recommended. Full Answer → QUESTION: What fuel should I use with my tune? ANSWER: To ensure your vehicle performs as intended, it’s important to consistently run the specific fuel type your tune was designed for. The fuel type is noted in the file name of your tune. For all pump gas tunes, we do NOT recommend ethanol-free fuel, regardless of octane rating. We recommend running fuel with at least 10% ethanol content. Using lower-octane or inconsistent fuel can impact performance, drivability, and overall reliability. Full Answer → QUESTION: What maintenance should I follow after getting tuned? ANSWER: Proper maintenance is key to ensuring your vehicle runs safely, reliably, and performs at its best with your custom tune. We recommend staying on top of the following: • Engine oil: Check regularly and run ~0.5 quart over (especially if launching or driving aggressively) • Service intervals: Shorten intervals and stay ahead of routine maintenance • Fluids: Check levels consistently and adjust as needed (engine, trans, etc.) Full Answer → QUESTION: What tuning devices work with your tunes? ANSWER: We only support HP Tuners devices. Compatibility of each HP Tuners device varies by vehicle year/make/model, device type & generation, and your mobile phone's operating system (iOS or Android). All Tuning Packages include the latest-generation RTD (Remote Tuning Device) from HP Tuners. Full Answer → QUESTION: How many tune revisions and data log reviews are included with my tune? ANSWER: There's no limit. However many are needed to complete your tune are included with purchase. You can also request refinement post-completion if needed. When we say "complete," it means our tuner has determined there are no opportunities for further improvements based on your data logs, tuning goal, fuel type, etc. What this does not mean: No further changes can be made. You can request refinements anytime, including adjustments based on your experience over time. Full Answer → QUESTION: Does a ZFG tune include transmission tuning? ANSWER: Yes. All ZFG Tunes include custom calibration for the engine (ECM) and transmission (TCM). We don't write ECM- or TCM-only tunes. The price you see is the price you pay for a full, custom tune. Full Answer → QUESTION: What's the difference between custom and "off-the-shelf" or "chip" tunes? ANSWER: What's the difference between a custom tune and off the shelf tune (OTS)? Custom Tuning: Custom tuning creates a personalized tune based on your personal goals, preferences, and feedback, as well as your vehicle's specific setup and modifications. Custom tunes are written and refined over time rather than being "one and done." This approach offers the most precise adjustments available, resulting in the best performance and increased customer satisfaction. We work very hard to make sure customers get the power and driving characteristics they are looking in each of our custom tunes. Off-The-Shelf (OTS) Tuning: OTS tunes are pre-configured, "one size fits all" tunes. They are written with the intention of being generic and broadly compatible, based on what's been tested on one vehicle. OTS tunes may not fully optimize performance due to their nonspecific nature. Full Answer → QUESTION: How do I reset my password? ANSWER: To reset your password, click Log In → Log In with Email → Forgot Password Follow the instructions sent to your email. Full Answer → QUESTION: How long until I have my tune? ANSWER: It depends, but most customers complete the tuning process within approximately two weeks of submitting their stock file. The largest factor is turnaround time between revisions. Customers who submit logs and feedback promptly typically complete the process faster, while delays in log submission will naturally extend the overall timeline. Full Answer → QUESTION: How can I track my order? ANSWER: You can track order status by logging into your account and visiting the 'My Orders' section. Full Answer → QUESTION: Can I change my shipping address after placing an order? ANSWER: Maybe! Please contact us. Full Answer → QUESTION: What payment methods do you accept? ANSWER: We accept credit cards, debit cards, and more. Read More QUESTION: What Is Auto-Octane? QUESTION: Auto-Octane is a fuel type we offer for tunes. Read More QUESTION: Can I transfer my tune, tuning device, or tuned vehicle to another owner? QUESTION: 1. Read More QUESTION: Can I return my order or get a refund? Existing HP Tuners devices may be compatible with your vehicle and tuning goals. However, compatibility depends on the specific device model, device generation, vehicle platform, desired tuning method, and tuner preferences. Not all HP Tuners devices support all vehicles or tuning methods. For example, some vehicles may support the TDN App, while others may require VCM Suite. Licensing requirements and existing device usage may also affect compatibility. If you already own a tuning device, please contact us with the device model and vehicle information before purchase. We will be happy to help determine compatibility and any licensing requirements. Read More QUESTION: What are the benefits of using HP Tuners? QUESTION: HP Tuners offers several advantages compared to many handheld tuning devices. Read More QUESTION: Do I need to disconnect a previous tune or tuning device before installing a tune from ZFG? QUESTION: Yes. Read More QUESTION: Do you support aftermarket downpipes? QUESTION: Yes. Read More QUESTION: Are there any recommended modifications? QUESTION: No modifications are required to enjoy the benefits of custom tuning. - Can I add a tune feature while my tune is already in progress (Trans Brake, Launch Control, etc.)? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Policies QUESTION Can I add a tune feature while my tune is already in progress (Trans Brake, Launch Control, etc.)? ANSWER In most cases, no. TIPS • Ensure your current tuning process is fully completed before purchasing a tune add-on. • Always submit Tune Requests using the order number associated with the feature being requested. • If unsure whether your tune is complete, review your most recent calibration email or contact Sales before purchasing additional tune features. - Can I use my tuning device on more than one vehicle? | ZFG RACING LLC
< All FAQs Category: Devices & Software QUESTION Can I use my tuning device on more than one vehicle? ANSWER In many cases, an HP Tuners device can be used with multiple vehicles. TIPS Licensing between a specific vehicle and device requires credits. Each vehicle requires a specific number of credits for licensing. Most modern Ford vehicles require 4 Credits.
